Maths plays a vital role in all aspects of life and many jobs, from trades to academia. Being successful in maths will create more opportunities for our students in higher education and beyond. Maths provides a broad range of skills in problem solving, logical reasoning and flexible thinking, and is a cross-curricular topic needed to achieve in other areas.
The Art curriculum intends to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflects and shapes our history, and contributes to their own and other’s cultures and wealth.
Provoking and providing answers to questions about the natural and human worlds, students are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills in our students whilst inspiring a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
The foreign language curriculums at LNS ensure our students get the opportunities to develop and practice their language skills whilst following an ambitious and culturally broad plan that incorporates the different attributes required to become literate in a Modern Foreign Language; Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

Situated in the very heart of central London, the school was established over 100 years ago as an educational establishment to help all pupils achieve their full potential, this remains our core purpose. Pupils explore ambitious literary concepts through the study of challenging texts from a wide range of genres, forms and provenance. Learning how to read analytically, to write accurately and employing sophisticated and scholarly vocabulary with fluency our students study texts which develop their understanding of humanity, society and cultures so that they become responsible citizens of the world. We explore 6 themes throughout our curriculum, at each stage building upon pupil’s knowledge and deepening their understanding. The themes are Tragedy, Mystery & the Supernatural, Science & the Natural World, Gender & Relationships, The Immigrant Experience and Social & Political Protest.

Situated on Southbank five minutes from Waterloo, Blackfriars and Southwark Stations and on major bus routes our superb location puts LNS at the heart of London and within easy distance of our fantastic cities cultural capital. We take great pride in our school and take every advantage of our central location to visit the museums, galleries, theatres, exhibitions and docks at every opportunity. Be they future mariners, sporting heroes, parliamentarians or proud citizens of London and the wider world our students find all the inspiration they need within minutes of our historic school's blue front doors.
Our curriculum prepares our pupils for the world beyond school through an enriched, knowledge-based learning journey that is rooted in developing lifelong skills. At the London Nautical School we provide a curriculum that will challenge and inspire. Through our carefully designed programmes of study we aim to nurture ambition, develop a lifelong love of learning and give our pupils the tools and knowledge they will need to become successful learners and respectful and responsible citizens who are capable of making a difference in the world.
Our onsite sports hall provides our students with the best sporting, training and education facilities and is available evenings and weekend for hire. Suitable for five a side / volleyball / cricket practice and much more. Changing facilities and adjacent off road parking make this an unique space right in the heart of London.
Expanding pupils’ knowledge of various styles and conventions of music and drama in order to develop well-rounded, empathetic, and creative pupils who are equipped with transferable skills developed through a broad subject specific vocabulary that involves collaborating with fellow pupils to devise and perform musical and dramatic pieces that utilise IT skills and s other cultural influences in the creative process.
Every pupil is encouraged to take maritime qualification if they want to whilst they are at LNS. This ranges from national governing body certificates such as RYA and British Canoeing through to aspiring to achieve captain and chief engineer qualifications when they are older. The level 3 course is very successful at progressing students onto fully funded Merchant Navy cadetships at maritime universities, as well as onto apprenticeships/careers both port-based and at sea. Three themes thread through the maritime curriculum at all key stages: safety and risk assessment; care for the environment and working as a responsible crew. This applies equally to lessons on the water as it does in the classroom.
Equipping students with the skills to participate in a rapidly- changing world through challenging and engaging topics. ICT Students will develop an understanding of the applications of the fundamental principles of computer science, computational thinking, digital literacy and e safety. Computing and digital skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative, independent and responsible learners and it is our intention that pupils have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this and use these skills in a technological driven world.
Our science curriculum stimulates every child's curiosity about the world and the universe that they inhabit. We want to inspire, enthuse and provide students a passion about the natural world. We encourage students to think critically about what they read and hear ensuring that they can understand and challenge claims made in the debates about our world's vital issues. We encourage every student to learn about the rich global history of scientific discovery, understand the big ideas of science which underpin our understanding of how the earth and universe operate whilst developing a scientific approach to problem-solving.
Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage independently in designing and making. Using research and exploration to identify and solve their own design problems, students will be inspired to think creatively, generate their original ideas, develop and finalise them. Communicating their ideas clearly and also working in partnership with other students they learn how to select tools and build the skills to work maturely and independently, this includes testing, evaluation and refinement of their ideas and products against a specification.
